DOE 2020 Questions to Ask Your Supplier 

The commercial refrigeration industry continues to prepare for the impending January 1, 2020, and July 10, 2020, Department of Energy (DOE) regulatory standards compliance dates. A critical component of this preparation is the ability for equipment suppliers to answer the most relevant questions. That being said, what are the most important questions you should ask your supplier?

1. Are you redesigning your applicable products to be compliant per the DOE’s 2020 requirements?
2. Will your designs be tested to confirm they meet minimum AWEF standards?
3. Do you have release dates for when these products will be available for purchase?
4. When will technical data, such as electrical and capacity tables, dimensions, and updated collateral be available for condensing units, unit coolers and other affected equipment you sell?
5. Will your products be AWEF compliant by 2020 with ALL refrigerants, including R404A?
6. Is the pricing of the affected equipment going to increase once these changes have been implemented?
7. Are you providing online resources or other collateral for customer awareness?

Important DOE Compliance Dates

• January 1, 2020 - The date newly manufactured medium temperature condensing units and medium temperature self-contained units must meet minimum AWEF values.
• July 10, 2020 - The date newly manufactured low temperature condensing units, low temperature self-contained units, and both medium and low temperature unit coolers must meet minimum AWEF values.
