    After so much dire information about the economy, there's finally some good news. Natural gas – the heating fuel that was in drastically short supply a decade ago – is today being uncovered at an amazingly rapid rate, driving the price of the fossil fuel to nearly a seven-year low. That should come as a relief to the millions of North American businesses and homes heated by natural gas. Horizontal drilling technology is unlocking large amounts of gas in previously off-limits shale formations, and more utilities are getting on the natural-gas bandwagon, adding power plants that can produce electricity while creating half the carbon generated by burning coal.

With a 90-year supply of natural gas estimated in the U.S., prices are expected to remain relatively low. Yet the fuel industry is a complicated one, so the future is hard to predict. In this issue, we’ll give you the experts' best guess of what to expect in the coming years.
